Keep Pushing! Training Update- #WWKHD20 weeks of hard work and huge progress! This weekend was the 2011 WBFF Fitness Atlantic. I put in long hours in the gym, focused day in day out but in the end (and literally right down to the wire) I had to make a call. I was not there yet, not 100 percent, not at my best. On Friday afternoon, after a long chat with my coaches I decided to WAIT! -- (W)hy (A)m (I) (T)empted?? Yes I was tempted!! I want it soooo BAD!!! Just because I want it doesn't mean I am ready! This is not a sport for those who desire instant gratification! In this sport and in life PATIENCE and WORK will bring you to your goals!! I firmly believe that the STAGE is not a place for practice! The STAGE is not where champions are made it IS where they are RECOGNIZED! I don't train to play I train to be the BEST ATHLETE I can be! I train to bring the BEST PACKAGE to the STAGE! I train to WIN! When you are ready you know it in your heart and your mind, you feel it in your bones! I pushed as hard as I could but I could not beat TIME! I am proud of the progress I made and even more motivated to reach my goals then ever! I know that anything worth having will be HARD to achieve and it will require pushing through barriers! I know it will happen! I know I can keep working! I WILL get there! It is just a matter of TIME (T)hings (I) (M)ust (E)arn !!!! I will keep pushing! That's what I do!! Never quit! Never give up on me! I GO FORWARD! I train as hard as I can and expect the best of my efforts! I know the secrets to this game! Consistency! Patience! Time! Next target on the map is the 2011 WBFF Eastern USAs in Boston on June 25th. That's 68 days of WORK! Mind vs. body Both your mind and your body are smart and get smarter and you fight
You have to train your mind to stay objective
Listen to your body but don't always trust it!
True depiction of keeping your enemies close!
Body can be tricky and sneaky. It will make you feel like you need something you don't!
Mind has to say unattached to the bodies "fake signals" but clearly detect the "real signals"
Mind and body both have strategy
Both desire to outsmart the other
Both want to win!
Try this, take that........ wait for response,,,,,,, again and again!
Both get smarter!

When you want something… ....... YOU WORK!
Work for it Work-it-out Work with what you got Work harder thank you think you can Work even when you are tired and want to stop Work longer then you think you should Work your mind until your body follows Work, work, work Just DO WORK! Then you pause and say DAMN I feel good … smile and then…. keep WORKING!! Because that IS what it takes! No Struggle. It also reminded me of another great Frederick Douglass quote “People might not get all they work for in this world, but they must certainly work for all they get"Remember this is about YOU.... YOUR GOALS..... YOUR LIFE! It wont happen overnight and it will take LIFELONG effort. Be prepared for and enjoy the journey... don’t expect immediate results… be willing to put in the WORK! Bring an attitude of EARN not EXPECT with you every day! Discipline is a learned skill…. meaning you have to practice it! Struggle ..... it is just an opportunity for you to practice, grow, improve, and MAKE PROGRESS! Dont avoid it. Welcome it! Clean Eats: one of my fav meals #WWKHD

Everybody has "off" days and Everybody gets discouraged #WWKHDYep, its true.... it happens and the strange thing is that it will sneak up on you when you least expect it!! Everybody has "off" days or moments where you feel completely discouraged!
How you handle yourself in these moments is a true test of character and spirit! This blog is a safe and honest place... if I only wrote posts that exemplified the powerful, determined, confident side of me than it wouldn't be REAL!! I think it is important for me to share that I do experience moments of discouragement! Every once and a while.... negative self defeating thoughts sneak into my brain.
Like tonight! Here is a quick recap of my day..... woke up feeling great, had an awesome leg workout with WBFF Pro Bodybuilder Matt Stirling, banged out a 5mile run, , had a great meeting, got a lil R&R, pulled out some interval training, refueled, had an awesome shoulder/tri/core workout with WBFF Pro Figure World Champ Emily Stirling, then.......... put on the stillies to work some posing!
Yep thats when it happened. Those sneaky lil negative thoughts that attack when you feel most vulnerable. The voice was saying... "hahah you are working so hard and you are not going to be ready.... you still have weak areas in your physique... you are still holding bodyfat ... what are you thinking?? Why are you doing this??"
I had an honest chat with my coach and explained how I was feeling. I probably didn't need to say anything I am sure she could tell by my demeanor! Are discussion was brief and honest.... we will continue to WORK! EXECUTE the plan and see how the next few weeks go! We will hit it hard first thing tomorrow morning and again and again until we are READY!
I set in my car for a few min before I drove off. I thought about crying, I thought about calling someone to vent, I thought about all the people who are supporting me and the pressure associated with not wanting to let them down.... ya this made it worse! I tried to block out the voice but it just kept getting louder!!!
AGAIN... how you handle yourself in these moments is a true test of character and spirit! You can only stop the voice of discouraging, negative babel with TRUTH!!
Here is what I know....
These are the ingredients to success! All of the about plus ONE more very important ingredient..... PATIENCE!
You cant rush your body! It will happen... you need to keep doing the work required day-in-day-out and when its ready it will happen! When you are impatient you get discouraged!!! You want it NOW! Ya well so does everyone else! Impatient people can't hang in there..... they don't EXECUTE the plan long enough to get what they want!
So patience is a new skill that I am focused on mastering!!
Tonight I am STOPPING the the voice of negativity with the truth!!
Yes, I want to ROCK the stage! Yes, I want to WIN!! But more than those things.... I want to LIVE the TRUTH listed above!! This is about real life. This is about choices! This is about a persistent effort of believing in and prioritizing me so that I can be the best me possible for myself, my family, and my friends!
Know your truths and have them on hand when you get discouraged! This will prevent you from falling into the trap of impatience and damaging what you have worked so hard for! Do the work required day-in-day-out! It will happen! Be patent enough to see it through!
Glutes... #WWKHD
I have been thinking a lot about glutes lately.... probably because I have to be on stage flaunting mine in 37 days lol
Glutes can make or brake a figure athlete!
They are the most important part of the leg and the power source for all leg movement.
Building strong glutes is a big focus of mine!! I am working to build my glutes with explosive movements, heavy weights, and smart pairing interval cardio. I am also hitting glutes several times a week by splitting my quad/ham focus days and incorporating 3 conditioning workouts.

Don't make excuses make effort #WWKHD
Excuses get you NOWHERE in life!!!!!
Effort gets you on the path to what you want!!
Anyone can make excuses but only few make effort!
It comes down to this... how bad do you want it?
If your response comes with a bunch of "but", "if", "only", "not fair", BLAH BLAH BALH ......then you really don't want it that bad!
When you want something bad enough you figure out a way to make it happen! Period!
Everyone has a full schedule, daily commitments, personal and professional demands. Everyone also has the same 24 hour period to GET IT DONE!
How you choose to spend your time.... well that is on YOU!
Who and what you choose to prioritize.... yep, that is on YOU also!!
I am not a fan of excuses. If you are not willing to do the work required to meet a goal....... just admit you don't want it and move on! Learn to be happy with where you are or what you have and stop complaining!
You will know you are ready for change when you are ready to except the WORK and make the EFFORT!
You will EXECUTE day-in-day-out with patience! You will enjoy the process because you know that consistent HARD WORK pays off!
