My View On Competitions Part 2

Here is the thing with competitions....you have to know "WHY" you are doing it and you have to have a SOLID reason to remind your self "WHY" you are doing it all the time.

Why do you need to know "WHY" ?? Because it is HARD, it is taxing in every possible way! It will test you in ways you have never been tested!! If you don't have a good enough reason to DO IT.... well you wont! You will slip, you will fumble your way through your prep and you wont take the stage at YOUR BEST or you wont take the stage at all.

So lets talk about REASONS first.... then we can talk about ACTION.

Everyone has different reason. Here are common reasons why people compete and some counter points for why they may not be "good enough".....

  • True love of the sport of bodybuilding..... although you can love and live the sport without the stage!!!
  • Some want to push themselves to get in the best shape of there life and they need a deadline or the pressure of the stage to make themselves change.... then do you really WANT to change?
  • Some want industry recognition so that they gain creditability  in the market place.... although there are many other ways to gain creditability!!
  • Some think the stage is their pathway to celebrity.... for 99% of people this is just not true and again there are other ways to achieve this!
  • Some have competitive spirit and the want to claim that title or pro status or world championship....if you are competitive, take on yourself, this is the only competition you should be worrying about, anyone else is a waste of your  head space. You can compete against yourself without the stage
  • Many just like or feel the need to be associated with something (sport, brand, organization, group etc)... I get this and it is important to be a part of a group/tribe but it is equally important to have your own values and beliefs. Don't loose YOU in the group!

Whatever your reason, just make it a good one! Really be able to support it to yourself for yourself!

So now we get to ACTION.... the doing. I think is great to pick a date, set a goal and work hard toward it BUT don't rush your body or your prep! Do the work but be patient. The stage will always be there! I would rather see someone live the lifestyle and rock the stage in a year then crash diet for 3 months!!!!! Why? Because even if you make it through the 3 months you will most likely not be able to sustain the diet and the training that it took to get you there.... you will binge.... when you restrict yourself to such extreme conditions you will rebel. AND ALL of the hard work will have been waisted! I have seen it happen over and over again, I have been through it myself! It is scary how fast your body with gain (and in all the negative aspects of the word)!

So if you know your reasons and you decide to compete be patient!!!! It is a process not a race. You don't have to make yourself stressed out and anxious. You don't have to starve and do 3 hours of cardio a day! Resist the crazy temptation to do drastic things to your body! Seriously its NOT worth it. Get on a plan that you enjoy and will stick to! Consistency and time will get you there!

And if you talk yourself through it and you realize you don't really WANT to compete..... well then that is totally OK! You dont have to compete to get in shape, to challenge yourself, to gain credibility, or for any other reason! You can just work hard because you ENJOY it because it makes you HAPPY!!

FitLife Rant: My View On Competitions #WWKHD

My View On Competitions

Some FitLifers may take the stage but make no mistake FitLifers do not forget about the day after show day! I love the sport of bodybuilding and fitness! I love the challenge! BUT I do not love or support the unhealthy behaviors that many competitors engage in!

I believe in eating clean and training hard EVERYDAY! I believe in constant progress! I believe in pushing hard! I believe in giving my mind body and soul what it needs to achieve my goals. I love training. I love goal setting. I love achieving new personal best more than that.

My training doesn't always revolve around the goal of a bodybuilding/fitness/bikini competition. Sure I enjoy getting dolled up and strutting my stuff but I am an athlete. Athletes train to perform. The majority of my fitness goals are performance driven.

Many competitors talk about on and off season. Some use the theme "off season" as an excuse to blow off their training and binge eat a bunch of junk. This is not something I am interested in. Why? Because I like to train and I like to eat the foods that support my goals. Yes, I also like ice cream just as much as anyone else and I may allow myself a treat now and then but not on a regular basis. No, I do not feel deprived. I actually enjoy the foods I eat every day! I believe this is the key to success. I would pick a killer session in the gym or a run over any night out in the city. I enjoy getting up before the sun and working hard to achieve my goals.

There are several positive aspects of competing. This sport builds discipline, it demands mental toughness, and it inspires many people to commit to a lifestyle change. Of course there are aspects that can lead to unhealthy behaviors. As with anything in life, competition or no competition people will do what they want..... good, bad, healthy or unhealthy. At the end of the day your healthy is your responsibility. If you have the right mindset and motivations you will make the right decisions.

Compeititions help me focus! When you comit to getting on that stage, everything becomes clear. All aspects of your training must be on point in order for you to show up at your best. Everything intensifies! This is why I compete!

8 Weeks to WORLDS! #WWKHD

You will hear me say this a lot!
"This is a game of discipline! Execute the plan, evaluate, replan! Remember the commitment u made 2 succeed is more important than anything!"
Every time I plan I get a lil scared! I have to remind myself that this is a GOOD thing! If I'm not scared then I am not pushing myself. If I'm not nervous for every new workout then I am not getting better. If I'm not struggling to get through the first 1-3 times I do the new routine then its not hard enough. Progression should scare you! That's why its called TRAINING. Its not supposed to be comfortable. Same effort yields the same results. That is not what we want!

8 weeks to WORLDS!
Time to dig deeper, push harder, sweat more, and never let comfortable into any training session!

Moving FORWARD #WWKHD

This weekend I got back on stage for the first time in years. I competed in the WBFF Eastern US Championships Bikini division. I had an amazing weekend and was honored to share the stage with some amazing athletes! The weekend was full of highlights, here are a few.....

  • Hanging back stage with my girl and TS teammate Maria
  • My other girl and TS teammate Alyssa drove from CA to cheer us on! She is the BOMB
  • Metering Fleur Yvette IRL... luv this girl :)
  • Chat time with Chady Dunmore WBFF Pro Bikini World Champ
  • Repin for Team Stirling, RSP Nutrition, and Performance Health and Fitness

It felt great to be back! Overall, I was happy with my condition and the progress I have made over the last few months but I know where I need to improve! The next 8 weeks I am going to be laser focused on leaning out my legs even more and building my glutes

Motivation

I have talked to you guys about motivation/vision boards before... this morning I put the above image together. Me side by side some of the top bikini pros including Chady! How is that for MOTIVATION!!! So today is back to the gym and ready for operationbuild Kandace's booty :)

That's how we do! Always moving FORWARD!

60 days to WORLDS!

Train Hard!

Keep Pushing! Training Update- #WWKHD

20 weeks of hard work and huge progress! This weekend was the 2011 WBFF Fitness Atlantic. I put in long hours in the gym, focused day in day out but in the end (and literally right down to the wire) I had to make a call. I was not there yet, not 100 percent, not at my best.

On Friday afternoon, after a long chat with my coaches I decided to WAIT! -- (W)hy (A)m (I) (T)empted??

Yes I was tempted!! I want it soooo BAD!!! Just because I want it doesn't mean I am ready! This is not a sport for those who desire instant gratification! In this sport and in life PATIENCE and WORK will bring you to your goals!!

I firmly believe that the STAGE is not a place for practice! The STAGE is not where champions are made it IS where they are RECOGNIZED! I don't train to play I train to be the BEST ATHLETE I can be! I train to bring the BEST PACKAGE to the STAGE! I train to WIN!

When you are ready you know it in your heart and your mind, you feel it in your bones! I pushed as hard as I could but I could not beat TIME! I am proud of the progress I made and even more motivated to reach my goals then ever! I know that anything worth having will be HARD to achieve and it will require pushing through barriers!

I know it will happen! I know I can keep working! I WILL get there! It is just a matter of TIME (T)hings (I) (M)ust (E)arn !!!!

I will keep pushing! That's what I do!! Never quit! Never give up on me! I GO FORWARD! I train as hard as I can and expect the best of my efforts!

I know the secrets to this game! Consistency! Patience! Time!

Next target on the map is the 2011 WBFF Eastern USAs in Boston on June 25th

That's 68 days of WORK! Let's Do This!!!!!!

Big thanks to my Team Stirling Coaches and all of my friends and readers of this blog who support me! I appreciate you more than you know!!

Keep Fighting #WWKHD

This sport is a battle
You vs. you
Mind vs. body
Both your mind and your body are smart and get smarter and you fight
You have to train your mind to stay objective
Listen to your body but don't always trust it!
True depiction of keeping your enemies close!
Body can be tricky and sneaky. It will make you feel like you need something you don't!
Mind has to say unattached to the bodies "fake signals" but clearly detect the "real signals"
Mind and body both have strategy
Both desire to outsmart the other
Both want to win!
Try this, take that........ wait for response,,,,,,, again and again!
Both get smarter!
You vs. you
One has to win! One has to loose!
Keep fighting!!!!
